Role Summary
The Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing construction-ready site plans for solar PV systems, incorporating contract specifications, client requirements, and regulatory standards, while ensuring constructability and efficiency.
The Design Engineer takes the initial system concept ideas and translates them into fully detailed construction-ready designs. Coordinating with multiple team members and customers, the Design Engineer balances the necessity of a customer solution with the efficiency of standard practices.
The role requires close coordination with the Engineering, Procurement, Execution, Business Development, and HSE teams, as well as with clients, consultants, and government authorities.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential :
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related discipline.
- 1–3 years’ experience as a Design Engineer or in a related role in the solar or renewable energy sector (internships and trainee programs considered).
- Familiarity with PV power plant project execution and a basic understanding of mechanical installations.
- Proficiency with PVsyst and similar solar performance modelling software.
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD; familiarity with SketchUp or other 3D tools is an advantage.
- Awareness of cultural differences and varying legal / regulatory environments.
Preferred :
Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously.Exposure to multinational or matrix organizations.Familiarity with local grid operator / distribution company requirements in Bahrain or GCC countries.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Timely delivery of proposal and detailed drawings as per project schedule.Accuracy and completeness of BoQs and layouts (targetCompliance rate of submitted drawings with local / international standards.Stakeholder satisfaction on responsiveness and coordination (internal / external).Key Responsibilities
KRA 1 : Preparation of Initial Drawings (Proposal Stage)
Review and analyze technical information from RFPs and tenders; compile required documentation considering cost-effective and innovative solutions.Prepare preliminary Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for electrical infrastructure.Generate preliminary layouts using AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVCase, Helios 3D or similar software.Conduct site visits to gather measurements and data when as-built drawings are not available.Perform desktop studies to prepare site layouts and preliminary energy yield assessments for remote sites.Prepare basic electrical schematics such as Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) in compliance with company and international standards.Assist in yield assessments using simulation software (e.g. PVsyst) under the guidance of senior engineers.KRA 2 : Development of Detailed Drawings (Project Stage)
Support the central engineering team in producing detailed engineering drawings, technical descriptions, and basic calculations for engineering reviews, construction drawings, and permit / licensing submissions.Assist in analyzing inputs from power systems teams or grid operators (grid codes, PoCC specifications, interconnection requirements) to ensure PV plant designs meet compliance requirements.Coordinate with the procurement team to align project designs with procurement specifications and vendor selections.Prepare interconnection drawings, SLDs, bid sets, construction sets, and as-built drawings; coordinate overflow work with external engineering vendors as needed.Liaise with clients, consultants, and authorities to facilitate timely approvals of drawings compliant with project and contractual requirements.Maintain and update drawing submittal logs aligned with the overall project schedule in coordination with internal stakeholders.KRA 3 : Compliance and Quality Control
Engage with suppliers to support technical discussions on project solutions, alternative options, and optimization of electrical infrastructure.Ensure all drawings comply with company-approved templates, international standards (IEC, NEC) and local authority requirements.Stay up to date with local regulations and grid operator requirements in Bahrain and other YDE markets.Review designs submitted by contractors / subcontractors for compliance with company standards, international best practices, and applicable codes.Why Join Yellow Door Energy?
