Job profile : The Director of Finance is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the organization’s financial functions. This role ensures the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of all financial operations while supporting organizational growth and sustainability. The Director of Finance is a key member of the executive team, providing financial leadership, strategies, and insights to drive business success.
Roles and Responsibilities
- 1. Financial Planning and Analysis
Develop and maintain financial models, including cash flow projections, budgeting, and forecasting.
Analyze feasibility, profitability, and risk factors to support decision‑making.Provide insights and recommendations to the General Manager, board members, and other directors regarding financial strategies and investment opportunities.2. Budgeting and Cost ManagementCollaborate with the departments to prepare annual budgets and monitor expenses.
Implement cost‑control measures to optimize profitability without compromising quality.Identify cost‑saving opportunities and efficiency improvements across operations.Manage accounts payables, payrolls, and oversee expense tracking.3. Financial Reporting and CompliancePrepare timely and accurate financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and other financial requirements.Coordinate with external auditors for audits and filings.4. Treasury and Cash ManagementManage cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationships.
Implement strategies to optimize cash utilization and minimize financing costs.Oversee debt financing, loan negotiations, debt servicing, and covenant compliance.5. Strategic LeadershipPartner with senior leadership to align financial strategies with organizational goals.
Develop policies, procedures, and internal controls to strengthen financial governance.Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to finance team members to ensure effective performance and continuous development.6. Investment and Financial ControlEvaluate new investment opportunities, including cost analysis, return projections, and risk assessment.
Present investment appraisals and recommendations to senior management to support revenue growth.Establish and monitor financial controls and policies to ensure accurate reporting.Provide financial oversight across all departments by approving, reallocating, or managing expenditures to optimize profitability and cash flow.Advise management on spending priorities e.g., by shifting resources (tightening or redirecting a department’s spend) to ensure alignment with strategic and financial objectives.7. Ethics, Integrity, and ComplianceUphold the highest standards for integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all financial practices.
Ensure transparency and accountability in reporting and decision‑making.Promote a culture of financial integrity by ensuring strict compliance with accounting standards, and discouraging any form of misrepresentation, dishonesty, or falsification of financial records.Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance (required)2. Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance, Finance, or MBA is preferred3. Relevant certifications e.g., ACCA, CPA (required)4. CFA is a plus5. Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, financial control, and investment analysis experience.6. Strong accounting and finance knowledge, and knowledge in concepts like capital structuring, investment analysis, financial modeling, etc.7. Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and other accounting and finance based resources.8. Excellent analytical and financial skills.9. Strategic and creative problem‑solving skills.10. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including report preparation and presentation.11. Ability to work collaboratively with management and other directors.12. Knowledge of financial analysis and reporting software.13. High ethical standards and professionalism in financial practices.14.
