MAIN OBJECTIVES
To carry out upholstery tasks as designated by the Technical Cabin Duty Manager or Technical Cabin Engineers to an acceptable standard of workmanship, in accordance with aircraft-approved documents.
MAIN DUTIES
Work under the direction of the Technical Cabin Duty Manager and / or Cabin Engineers to perform routine and non-routine Cabin Maintenance upholstery tasks on aircraft and in the Technical Cabin Workshop.
Make, restore, or create custom upholstery using hand tools and machine tools suitable for fabric, leather, carpets, and curtains.
Attach fasteners, grommets, buttons, buckles, ornamental trims, and other accessories to covers and upholstery using hand and machine tools designed for fabric, leather, and curtains.
Adjust or replace webbing, padding, and springs, and secure them properly.
Sew rips or tears in materials, or create tufting, using needles and thread.
Operate sewing machines or sew upholstery manually to seam cushions and join different sections of covering material.
Measure and cut new covering materials following patterns and specifications using appropriate instruments.
Draw cutting lines on materials following patterns, templates, sketches, or blueprints using chalk, pencils, or paint.
Apply bindings or solutions to edges of cut materials to prevent raveling.
Read work orders and determine the types and amounts of materials needed based on experience and material knowledge.
Adhere to aircraft-approved maintenance procedures during all maintenance activities and be familiar with safety precautions.
Ensure that tools, equipment, and facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and operational condition.
EDUCATION
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
At least 5 years of experience as an industrial tailor or upholsterer, with a preference for 2 years of aviation experience.
