Responsibilities

• The Deck Hand reports to the Master.
• Contributes to keeping the vessel available for safe and efficient deployment, following all HMS policies, procedures and local legislation.
• Ensures all work tasks are performed safely; if uncertain, asks the Master for guidance before starting.
• Proposes initiatives to raise onboard safety.
• Actively participates in safety training, including drills.
• Performs operational duties related to vessel tasks, including salvage jobs, workshop jobs ashore, and equipment preparation on shore or tow.
• Performs maintenance and housekeeping duties on deck, in the engine room, or accommodation as instructed.
• Stand watches such as lookout on the bridge and on deck as required.
• Has the obligation to stop work whenever a task is unsafe and informs the Master; knows the Stop Work and Take 5 procedures.
• Knows the procedure for proactive and near-miss reporting and reports relevant occurrences to the Master.
• Complies with the regulations of the company safety management system.
• Inducts visitors, employees, and other authorized persons when the Master, Deck Officer or Chief Engineer / Engineer is unavailable.
